Sean Scully says it's very important for a young artist to have friends, because friends keep you warm. Now that I'm no longer a young artist, this is still a truth. So here's to Sharon Swidler, Mary Jo Marks Aardsma, Diane McGregor, Judith Roth, Jason Messinger, Scott Simons, Dara Felz, Basia Krol, Randi Russo, Emily Roynesdal, Jim Pinto, Joey Wozniak, the entire Artists' Breakfast Group, my art-friends who keep me warm. Caffeine IV at Murphy-Hill Gallery Chicago
I attended the opening of the Caffeine IV group exhibit at Murphy-Hill Gallery last night. A stellar line-up of who's who in Chicago art exhibited as many as three pieces of work each in this huge, spectacular space seemingly designed for museum work, in the old main Sears-Roebuck building in Garfield Park.

Joyce Owens and Judith Roth, two of my favoritest artists are being honored today by the Chicago Women's Caucus for the Arts for Excellence in the Arts at the Chicago Cultural Center at 4:00 pm today. I won't miss this.

Judith and Joyce are artists, advocates and educators. They believe in and act on the power of community for artists, women and minorities. They care about art and artists of all stripes and colors. I am proud and pleased and honored to know them and to call them friends.
